When the back portion of the body suffers from acne, the term that is used is back acne. Compared to facial acne, this acne becomes very difficult in treating as the patient can’t see it. Back acne is also known as “bacne”. Other than back, the upper arms also suffer from back acne in the forms of blackheads, pimples, pustules and sometimes cysts also. Back acne generally occurs in age group of 10 to 40 or after that. Generally, it is seen that people who suffer from frequent outbreak of acne, tends to have back acne. Other than these clogging of skin pores, hormonal changes also contributes to back acne.
Causes of Back Acne
Over active oil glands: Like our skin, the back portion of our body have lots of skin pores. In fact, the quantity of skin pores is much more that facial skin. Thus, they have more oil glands and more secretion. This contributes to a great extent in causing back acne.
Improper clothing: Unfortunately most of the people are not aware of the fact that improper clothing causes back acne. Almost 30% of people suffer from back problem due to improper clothing. Wearing tight clothes is a very bad habit. As the body moves, the tight cloth gets rubbed against the skin causing irritation and pressure on the back. Dead skin cells and secreted oil throughout the day rubbed against the back. Thus, they infect the skin and causes acne outbreaking. If the skin remains exposed under this kind of situation for a prolonged time, then back acne might turn more severe and give rise to other health problems.
Sweat: When our body sweats, the skin feels itchy and irritated. Like improper clothing also, if the skin remains under conditions for long period of time then the conditions becomes suitable for back acne. Since, school going children also suffers from this sweat problem as they carry heavy backpacks that rests on their shoulder throughout the day causing skin irritation.
How to Get Rid of Back Acne
- Depending on the extent of the back acne, treatment is decided. If you are suffering from mild to moderate back acne 10% to 15% benzyol peroxide gel or cream will be adequate for you. But for severe acne like cysts, it is recommended to consult dermatologist.
- Consult a dermatologist and take medicines as prescribed. Antibiotics are good in treating back acne. After the completion of course, back acne can be easily prevented.
- Avoid use of harsh soap. Use a mild body cleanser or face cleanser for washing. Use a soft towel and then pat dry.
- Ear loose clothes and allow the skin to breathe properly. If the weather is hot and humid then wearing cotton clothes would give you a great relief.
- Exfoilation is a very good way in preventing the dead skin cells from accumulation at skin. Using sugar scrubs on a regular basis will help in achieving desired results.
- Keep the skin clean and clear as much as possible. Rough scrubbing damages the skin more and may contribute in worsening the situation.
