The tree grows to a height of about 10 meters. Previously, the oil was extracted, using the rum distillation process. Today, oil is extracted from the leaves, using the steam distillation process. The leaves used for the purpose are at least five years old. The major producers of bay laurel oil are Spain and Morocco.
